Charities and causes...

Colleen made donations to many charitable foundations. These include...

Beneficiaries of donations made on Colleen's behalf include...

Friends and family...

Colleen also gave her time, money and materials to many other worthy causes whenever she felt enthusiastic or saw enthusiasm in others. These could be anything from making goods for, or buying from, a local bake sale to buying raffle tickets or providing raffle items to support a local venture or benefit.

Blood donations...

There is a record of Colleen donating blood 23 times. According to a representative at Canadian Red Cross, three lives are saved for every donation made.

Buy local...

Colleen was a supporter of local producers and business, deferring purchases of imported items at "big box" stores in favour of buying local products on "main street".

Preserve the planet...

Colleen preferred organically-grown produce, and she was a resource- and energy conservationist.

Trans Canada Trail...

There is a network of trails across Canada that are being linked together under the name Trans Canada Trail. Colleen had made a donation to them in 1997 and had bought an "inscription" in memory of her dog Beemer and another in memory of her horse Lauralee Merrimarch. Beemer's and Merri's names appear with other donors at the TCT pavilion in Caledon East. Follow this link to learn more about the donation made by Colleen and a subsequent donation made on behalf of Colleen to TCT.

Colleen was a member of the Ontario Morgan Horse Club, and a frequent contributor and volunteer.

OMHC Hall of Fame...

On February 9, 2013, Colleen was inducted into the OMHC Hall of Fame for the calendar year 2012. Her family received this print and plaque at a ceremony held in Markham as part of OMHC's 2013 Awards Banquet and Dance.

Morgan Horse Heritage Centre

Opened September 22, 2012, the Centre's objectives are "to preserve, promote, research and display the history of the Morgan Horse, particulary in Canada".

The Centre occupies a dedicated building on the farm of Colleen's long-time friend Deana Wilson. Deana is donating a great deal of time and energy to the creation of the Centre and its ongoing operations. She has donated a microfilm reader to the Centre in Colleen's name, and plans to nominate Colleen for entry into the O.M.H.C. Hall of Fame.

Posthumous donations to the Centre were made in Colleen's name, items for use and for auction, including: bridles and reins, blankets, covers, riding boots, western saddle and stand, tools and other items for horse care, office supplies and office equipment, and this rustic iron Morgan horse flower pot hanger.

Habitat for Humanity...

Colleen had an interest in both helping this cause and promoting this cause. I am not exactly sure as to how she was involved or what she donated. After her death, the many points she had accumulated on her Hudson Bay store points card were donated here.
